The U-Pick field is now closed. It was mechanically harvested on Friday, August 12. There were very large, beautiful patches of huge blueberries left, and the hand picking could easily have gone on for another week, but it is our farm’s tradition to mechanically harvest the U-Pick field once all the other fields have been harvested. This year’s harvest was the quickest in recent years due to the unbelievably dry harvesting conditions.
Chilling in the cold room this morning is a large quantity of our blueberries. Soon four members of this year’s incredible crew will arrive to begin the last session of fresh packing for the season. The last day is always a bitter sweet day for me. The 2-3 week season is always intense and it taxes us physically; we are all ready for a rest. But I am also sad to see it end knowing I won’t have the privilege of seeing such wonderful, hard-working young people each day,
Today’s blueberries are big and beautiful, and we are thankful for this year’s crop. The schedule is full, but we may have an extra box or two by the end of the processing day. If you are interested, let me know. You can call me at 207-570-7500 or place an order online: Order Wild Maine Blueberries Here
The fresh packing ends today, but the option for frozen blueberries will extend to Labor Day Weekend, or while the supply lasts. Our blueberries freeze beautifully, and they retain their superior nutritional value. How many foods taste incredibly good, and are incredibly good for you! Order Frozen Wild Blueberries Here
